I want to start my own business, but I can’t think of any business ideas. As you see, I find myself in a conundrum. I could be a consultant, but I want to do something creative. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be an Interior Designer. However, my mom thought I wouldn’t’ make any money, so she forced me to do something else. This is something that I never want to do to my kids. Force them to not follow their dreams.
The best advice I have seen online is that you don’t have to come up with something completely new. Examples are Uber and Lyft, YouTube and Vimeo, UberEats and DoorDash, etc. This helps to narrow down the business I want to start. However, a lot of the ideas are for mobile and web apps. The problem is that I don’t know how to code. Learning how it is where I need to start. I have started taking classes to learn how to, but it won’t happen overnight.
The second best advice is that a lot of the companies didn’t have the services that they supported when they first started. This I received while listening to the Harvard Business Review podcast. Some of the examples given were Airbnb and Uber. It really helped me to know that I don’t have everything 100% perfect before starting.
The third one is just starting. It’s what I plan to do when I can find a business idea that I am passionate about and want to give my all. This weekend I plan to really think about it. I am not sure I want to continue working in the field I am currently in, and so I have to do something.
