Staycation Mode Right After Job Burnout

I hope that everyone’s having a lovely summer, and you could at least do something enjoyable. I am super excited because next week my staycation starts! It’ll be for two weeks. At first, it was only going to be for a week. However, because I had to push my PTO back a month, I decided to take two weeks off. I will be staying home for the first week. The second week will be spent at a lake house. I’ve never been to a lake house, so I am excited. I’ve always wanted to go to a lake house after watching movies like “The Lake House,” “The Great Outdoors,” and “Cheaper by the Dozen.”

Each year, we usually go on a big trip and then do little mini ones. Due to the pandemic, as with many people, we haven’t been able to do that. I have never done a staycation during the summer so it will be interesting. During Christmas, I take off, but it’s different. We do Christmas activities, eat out, and enjoy ourselves at various events. We can’t do that during this pandemic, so it got me thinking about how I can feel like I’m on vacation while socially distancing.

Forget About Work

The first thing I’m doing during the staycation is shut down everything having to do with work. The one thing about leaders is that you can’t be 100% off. You still have to be available if something happens. I’ll leave my phone number if anybody needs to text me or call me. If there is an emergency, someone can reach me. Other than that, goodbye work.
I am taking a mental break, which will help me because I’ll be recharged and ready.

Staycation Like How You Vacation

Everyone has a different way of traveling, and there is no right or wrong way. There are preferences and how you travel. Some people prefer to lounge on a beach or a lake; Other people want to explore as much as possible; Others want to check out the food or party scene. I’m definitely Explorer and Food Lover. During the staycation, I’m going to research just the areas around me. I love the DC area. I’ve lived in DC for most of my life, and there is always a new place to check out. I’m planning to check out the DC area like I’m a tourist.

Don’t Feel Like You Have to Keep Your Normal Routine

I’ve already said but act like you are on vacation. If you don’t feel like cooking, then don’t. Do something else. Make some grilled cheese sandwiches, eggs, and toast, or get carryout. If you were on vacation, you would not be cooking. If you rent a house, you probably will cook a bit, but it’s grilling hot dogs and burgers even then. Do the same! For every parent out there, please be selfish. That’s something that I didn’t do when my kids were growing up. Now, I’m doing that. Sometimes, parents tend to selflessly focus on everything and try to take care of everyone, and then we forget about ourselves. During this staycation, it’s about you.

Rest

That is what I am doing. I am going to lay in bed past 8 am. Of course. I got to take care of the dogs. My son usually walks the German Shepherd so I have to walk the Pekingese for five minutes and I’m good. I’ll take the dog(s) out and go back to bed if I feel like it.
Enjoy your staycations try to find a cabin or some isolated place where you can have fun. Have you been able to get away or take a staycation? Please let me know in the comment below. Take care of one another, and I’ll talk to you soon. Bye.
